Brazilian/Cuban Soprano Angelica de la Riva has recently performed the leading role in Horas Vacias, an Opera by Spanish composer Ricardo Llorca at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, conducted by E.Plasson.
Highlights of Ms. de la Riva’s performances include Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algieri with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra in Paris with Melodie Dialogue, and the same production with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Avery Fisher Hall, being the first Brazilian Soprano to perform there. Also in NY, Ms.
De la Riva created and premiered the lead role of Filomena in The Rise and Fall of the First World, Chamber Opera by Michael Kowalski. Conducted by R. Barret she has performed Poppea in L’Incoronazione di Poppea,The Countess in Marriage of Figaro, La Chatte/L’Ecureuil in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges and Desirée in Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music with the BC Orchestra; Sandrina in La Finta Giardiniera with LOT of NY; off Broadway Titania in Fools in Love Midsummer Night’s Dream; Ceres in The Tempest – The Tempest Fools; Brahm’s Liebes Lieder and Neues Liebes Lieder.
The Mother in O Cavalinho Azul an operetta by Tim Rescala and Maria Clara Machado at the Tablado Theater in Rio de Janeiro; Disney production of Beauty and the Beast in São Paulo, Brazil.
A passion for Iberian-American art song, inspired by her Cuban/Spanish ancestry, has led Ms. de la Riva to also specialize in this repertoire and to introduce Brazilian classical music to a wider audience. Her outstanding interpretation of this music has led to several performances including her Carnegie Hall Debut in November 2010 interpreting Brazilian Classical composers, the inaugural concert of La Fresneda Concert Hall in Asturias, Spain, accompanied by Orchestra de Camara de Sieros; The Spanish Song Festival in Granada with Teresa Berganza; XXXVIII Festival Internacional de la Cultura in Colombia; Moment Musicaux in Normandie, France among others.
As a recitalist she has also performed at Strathmore in Washington, DC; Jay Prizker Pavilion at Millenium Park in Chicago; Centro Cultural do Banco do Brasil and Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
