Her Beginnings as a Professional Singer
While still in Brazil, Lilian was involved with many musical projects, including:
• Projeto Músicos da Zona Oeste (Project Musicians of West-Zone)
• Projeto Melodia (Project Melody), in which several bands performed on a mobile stage throughout the state.
• The Fiat Music Festival
• The 1st MPB-Minas Festival Contest, a Brazilian popular music festival promoted by TV Bandeirantes, the second most popular TV network in Brazil today. Lilian won the "Best Singer's Award" for her performance in this contest.
The success of these events led to the formation of her first band, the "Som Nascente Group" (Rising Sound Group). This band performed in well-known nightspots, fairs, festivals and other types of events in her hometown and surrounding cities. At this time, Lilian was already a member of the Professional Musicians Association, which is a requirement to perform professionally in Brazil. To become a member, one must pass a series of auditions and tests evaluated by the Association's Board of Directors. The breakthrough of her career was her participation in the popular and innovative musical "Cristal", created and directed by the famous Brazilian composer and musician Oswaldo Montenegro. This courageous production brought to the stage of the "Palacio das Artes Theater" 50 performers (singers, actors, musicians and dancers). Later, the same cast would tour with the show throughout several states. "Cristal" generated a recording contract for an LP, with its songs being interpreted by some of the original cast members, including Lilian.
From Brazil to the United States
In 1991, Lilian moved to the United States and, in a very short time, became a household name in the Brazilian Community of South Florida. She made several appearances all over the country; including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and New York City. There were international appearances as well, for example, "The Carnival Ball" at the Atlantis Resort in Paradise Islands-Bahamas, and a party for the Brazilian Embassy in El Salvador.
